The historic market town of Market Harborough is home to 23,000 people and some 4,750 businesses. Sadly, the crime rate in the locality is on the rise, with theft as one of the area’s biggest problems. Between May 2017 and April 2018 there were 173 burglaries in the area and 356 incidents of shoplifting.
Despite repeated requests and petitions, the Council continues its policy of turning off street lighting in Market Harborough between midnight and 5.30 am, enabling burglars to operate under cover of darkness. Police have advised residents and the business community to take precautions to minimise the risk to properties.
